After over 20 years on air, NCIS has parted ways with its last original cast member. The CBS series continues to evolve, and in its latest season, another key figure from the show’s early days has quietly exited.

Following David McCallum’s passing in 2023, which marked the loss of his character Ducky Mallard, the only remaining link to the debut episode was Tobias Fornell, portrayed by Joe Spano. The fan-favorite FBI agent and close friend of Gibbs (Mark Harmon) last appeared in the show’s milestone 1000th episode earlier this year. However, Fornell’s absence in recent episodes—particularly “Sticks and Stones,” which introduced a new FBI character, Deputy Director Wayne Sweeney (Erik Passoja)—hints that his NCIS journey may have concluded.

Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), who joined in season one, now holds the title of longest-running active cast member. Despite numerous cast changes, NCIS remains vibrant in its 22nd season, with fresh faces carrying the iconic crime drama forward.

The NCIS universe is also growing. A new spinoff, NCIS: Tony and Ziva, is in the works, reuniting original stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo. The series will explore Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David’s life together following their off-screen reunion in Paris, reigniting the dynamic that won over fans years ago.
